Los Angeles is a daunting city, but lucky for us our friend, Neil, was
there to host and devise an awesome two-day highlights tour. Starting
at the Getty Museum, we learned about Richard Meier’s genius in the
design of a $1 billion museum overlooking the LA skyline below. 22.5
degree angles, 30x30 blocks, and white/beige colors pervade the most
beautiful museum that we have ever visited. Next, it was down to
Hollywood, where we hiked Runyon Canyon, compared hand sizes with the
stars and attended a production by the LA Philharmonic in the famed
Hollywood Bowl. The orchestra played songs to track excerpts from
Planet Earth as we picnicked in the amphitheater above.
The next day we enjoyed a fantastic breakfast with Neil’s family, rode
bikes along Venice and Santa Monica beach, played volleyball and took
a dip in the Pacific Ocean. It was the perfect way to bid adieu to
the pacific coast. We have been on it from Olympic National Park all
the way down to southern California for 16 days! It is hard to
believe that it is time to head east.
